Spotted in the Wild

Adventure

An educational adventure for kids. Come with Ash and explore nature.

Spotted in the Wild is a 3D puzzle adventure game for children to learn about Dutch nature. It was a school project made in unity. I worked as a 3D modeler using blender and made the shaders used in the game.

Hedgehog

The model was used as the main animals for the tutorial level of the game. As most models in the game, it's very low-poly. It has a toon shader and an outline shader attached to it.

It's supposed to look cute and cartoony to make kids interested in learning about the animal

Pine Tree

The pine tree was made out of simple triangle shapes and the trunk. This fits the cartoony style and looks good using the outline shader.

Standard tree

This was supposed to be the other of set of tree that could be found spread around the map. The leaves are made by spheres with another sphere layered on top of it that had it's faces randomized.

This gives an interesting texture when applying the toon shader.

Shrub

This was a small asset made to be spread around as decoration around the map. Its simple shape works very well with the outline shader.

It's made by using planes, adjusting them in the right places and giving them a solidify modifier.

Leave Pile

A small detail to be put on the floor to give it more texture. I made it was geometry nodes. I first made 3 different leaves, then used geometry nodes to pile them and rotate them.

Dirt Pile

A model used for places where the hedgehogs could hide hen the player spotted them.

About Spotted in the Wild

In Spotted in the Wild you play as Ash, a girl who has been send out by her greedy great uncle who owns the local newspaper to come and take pictures of the animals nearby. He even as nice to consider paying you.

Spotted in the Wild was a school project. Within my first year of my Creative Media and Game Technologies study we got tasked with a case. This case was to make an educational game for children. It needed to attract them to go outside and learn more about Dutch nature.

We catered to this target audience. We've done testing with the children and made sure it appealed to their wants and needs whilst still keeping the client in mind.

The end result is a fun game prototype that engages children by learning about the animals being getting close, studying their behavior and taking pictures of them.
